Gary Petmecky has taught both AP Micro and AP Macroeconomics at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia since 1996. Gary has attended the AP Economics reading every year since 2007. In that time, he has served as a reader, a table leader or a question leader. He served on the AP Microeconomics test development committee from 2019 – 2023. Gary has been actively involved in teacher economic education since 1998. In that time, he has presented at over 150 workshops. He holds a BBA in Economics, an MBA in Finance, an MEd in Social Sciences and an EdS in Leadership. Gary was awarded the Georgia Council on Economic Education Teacher of the Year award in 1999 and the Georgia Council for Social Studies Teacher of the Year award in 2007.<\/p>\n
Each participant will become better prepared to teach an AP Economics course. The workshop will begin with a session that introduces the teacher to the structure of an AP course, the format of the exam, a discussion on exam development, scoring practices and the resources available.\u00a0 Subsequent sessions will focus on intensive review of specific economic content, as listed in the College Board\u2019s Course Description. Lessons on more difficult concepts will be modeled. Participants will study the design of the currently available Free Response and Multiple-Choice questions and learn how to use rubrics in the grading process. Throughout the APSI, various texts and ancillary materials will be presented for evaluation.<\/p>\n
